Two large AVL men - Joep Van Lieshout

About the artwork

These two figures seem to greet each other at the square where the traffic from both the interior and the coastal road cross. They hold an obvious symbolic value.  The colour and monumental character of these 2000 sculptures exude a certain sense of warmth and generosity. Unreal yet fascinating, provocative yet a recognisable beacon within the town.

About the artist

Van Lieshout, who describes himself as a super-individualist, exhibits his pieces all over the world. He is mainly known for his polyester structures. His work is a combination of playful humour and seriousness, recognition and abstraction, warmth and detachment.
